This Kunle Afolayan x Temi Otedola collaboration is what we’ve all anticipated ever since the Citation press conference in January, where she was revealed as the lead actress. Temi Otedola is known for many things; daughter of billionaire Femi Otedola, fashion mogul, girlfriend to Mr. Eazi, but acting isn’t one. Which is why many are excited to see her acting debut.

At the press conference held in January, very few details about the movie was released. Information about the main cast list, which consisted of many talented actors in the Nollywood and other African countries, was disclosed. The Citation cast includes Ini Edo, Gabriel Afolayan, Joke Silva, Sadiq Daba, Temi Otedola, Jimmy Jean-Louis and many more. The movie’s central theme, ‘sexual abuse in universities’, was also revealed during the conference.

Fortunately enough, Kunle Afolayan gave us the chance to go through the production process alongside him and his team, from extended IG Live videos to short teasing clips from set. The movie was shot in many beautiful locations across Africa, including Senegal, Nigeria’s very own Obafemi Awolowo University here in Ile-Ife, and many other places yet to be disclosed.

On August 31st, Kunle Afolayan revealed a special cast member, no other than Dr. Mrs. Ibukun Awosika, the chairman of First Bank of Nigeria. She plays the role of Prof Ibukun Awosika, the Chairperson of the disciplinary board in the film.

The film’s official teaser and its first poster were released only a few hours ago via Kunle Afolayan’s Instagram account. We get to see sneak peeks of both Temi Otedola and Prof Awosika’s acting debuts.

Covid-19 hit us all in the early days of March. It took a toll on Nigeria’s many industries, with no exception of the Film Industry. While in isolation, we all consumed entertainment content in all its forms. Personally, I wished Citation was one of them. Luckily for us, the film will be released soon enough, and fingers crossed, we all get to enjoy every bit of it through an immersive cinema experience.
