Kunle Afolayan’s ‘Mokalik’ Has Been Acquired By Netflix

Netflix has continued to prove that they are after fresh stories and amazing contents; A truth that can be perceived from the numerous good listings on the giant film distributors.

Among their many collections of movies and shows, one more is been featured on the platform. From ‘Beast of no Nation’ to Genevieve Nnaji’s Lion Heart, Chiwetel Ejiofor’s The Boy Who Harnessed The Wind, and its first African animated series, Mama K’s Team 4. And now, Kunle Afolayan’s ‘Mokalik’.

At the French-Nigerian Cinema Days, which held from July 2-3 in Lagos, director and producer, Kunle Afolayan, revealed that Netflix has acquired the rights to his acclaimed movie, Mokalik:

“I wish to inform you that Netflix has acquired Mokalik and some of my other films.”

Mokalik explores a day in the life of 11-year-old Jaiye, who is to serve as an apprentice in a mechanic workshop — in order to give him a different perspective on life. Singer-songwriter, Simi makes her acting debut as the daughter of a buka owner, whom Jaiye develops a crush on.

There is no set date yet for when Mokalik will be released fully on Netflix; You can watch the thriller below:
