The film follows two young girls as they come to terms with their sexuality and the obstacles they will face in an environment where their relationship is frowned upon.
Although Ife would not be the first film to center LGBT in Nigeria, it will be the first to focus on women. In 2016, a short film titled “Hell or High Water” was released and the film focused on a young male pastor who comes to terms with his sexuality.
The film is directed by Uyaiedu Ikpe-Etim and stars Cindy Amadi and Uzoamaka Aniunoh. It is written by Asang Edem and produced by Pamela Aide.
Pamela Aide has worked on a previous LGBT project, a documentary titled “Under The Rainbow.” The documentary is a visual memoir that follows Pamela Aide’s life and experiences as a lesbian in the Nigerian society where homophobia and alienation is thrown at her.
The official date for the release of Ife has not yet been revealed.
