Last night, Insecure’s Yvonne Orji scored her first Emmy nomination as he supporting comedy actress category for her role as Molly Carter. Last year, we mentioned Yvonne Nelson as one the Actors of Nigerian Decent That Deserve an Emmy Nomination and her work has finally been recognized by the Emmys. This season, Yvonne’s character, Molly has been the subject of a lot of hate and criticism but there is no denying the magic Yvonne Orji has brought to the character.
I know Molly stressed y’all THE heck OUT this season, but shout out to all of you for riding with @insecurehbo and for VOTING!! We IN HERE! And it’s even sweeter when the WHOLE SQUAD THRIVIN TOO! 👏🏾👏🏾 to @IssaRae on her Emmy nod, the entire show, AND @BlackLadySketch!

In an interview with Hollywood Reporter, the actress revealed that she was texting with her co-stars and celebrating her co-star Issa’s nomination when she received a call and was congratulated. She initially thought she was being congratulated because the show was nominated but when informed she had been nominated herself, she blacked out.

Yvonne Orji joined the cast of Insecure in 2016 and has appeared on all 34 episodes of the show. Aside from her work on Insecure, she has appeared on TV shows such as Jane The Virgin, Flip the Script, Love That Girl, and many others. She recently released her HBO comedy special “Mama I Made It!” which was released to critical acclaim. We are so glad her work on Insecure has been recognized to her receiving more accolades.

The 2020 Emmy Awards will air on September 20, 2020 with ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel as the host. Due to the pandemic, it will be hosted virtually and viewers will be able to tune in online.
